My name's David. I grew up with food. Looking back I've found I can mark my life by meals, cooking experiments, and food jobs. Age is inconsequential, I see stages of my life as pre and post bacon.
I started cooking, I like to joke, because my parents were too busy to feed me. Really though, I owe my love of food to family meals, large and small. Thankfully, my family would indulge me and let me cook them the occasional dish.
I'm lucky enough to have travelled to and lived in strange places, most recently a year in Georgia (the country not the state). While abroad I've fallen for wine, especially the funky 'natural' low-intervention stuff.
I love food and drink, but not just for hedonism's sake. There's often a deeper story to a meal, be it cultural history or a personal connection. A bottle of wine can showcase an ancient tradition, or turn tradition completely on its head. Finding these stories has driven me to work with, and write about, gastronomy.
